Carl to Test Indy Car (3/31/2003)

Following is a press release from Pro Auto Sports
16 YEAR OLD CARL SCOTT OF TEMPE TO TEST IN AN INDY CAR AT PROAUTOSPORTS APRIL
4-6 RACE EVENT AT FIREBIRD INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
Young Carl Scott of Tempe will test an Indy Lights and an Indy car provided by the
MacDonald Racing Team at Firebird East Track Friday and Saturday April 4-6. This test will
be a part of the Professional AutoSports racing weekend at their home track, Firebird.
The ProAutoSports 2003 season consists of 10 monthly events at Firebird, 5 events in New
Mexico and the St. Johns Grand Prix Labor Day Weekend in beautiful St. Johns Arizona. The
April event is the 4th event of the season and features Corvette Time Trials, Club Racing
and Professional Racing, all in the same venue.
Carl Scott, a high school senior in Tempe started racing Karts at an early age and joined
the ProAutoSports program at age 14. He started with the Driver Orientation Program in a
street car and quickly earned his competition license. At age 15, he started competition
in a Formula Continental open wheel car, sponsored by Tiger Karts, a local valley
business.
Larry Pond, Managing Director of Professional AutoSports stated "We have watched Carl
progress through our program from a new driver at 14 years old in a street car to an
outstanding open wheel car driver at 16. He is a great example of what a young person can
do in racing at an early age." Larry continues, "We were really impressed with
Carl's last lap pass of Steve Lewandowski to win the St. Johns Grand Prix Formula
Continental Race last September. John MacDonald was there and said to me, there is a young
man that should be in an Indy Car!"
John MacDonald has offered to start the process for Carl to move up into professional
racing. John is bringing an Indy Lights race car and an Indy race car for Carl to test in
this coming weekend. John said "Carl is a real talent. "Carl is a very advanced
driver for his age. Even better, he is a thinking driver which is very unusual for young
drivers"
Carl, anxiously awaiting the chance of a racing lifetime, stated "It truly has been
wonderful to be able to race with your organization, and I hope to continue to do so
throughout my career. I know for a fact that if it were not for the help and guidance that
Larry has given to me, I would not be the racer I am today. I have learned more in the few
years racing with ProAutoSports than in all the years prior, and I must thank you once
again. I will see you at the track next Friday."
Spectators are encouraged to come out to ProAutoSports racing events. The entry fee is a
donation to TEAM ARIZONA, a group of organ donors and recipients that represent Arizona in
the national TRANSPLANT GAMES annually.
ProAutoSports provides high performance driver orientation programs for street cars, time
trials on track, club racing and professional road racing at each 3 day event at Firebird
International Raceway.
Minors, age 14 up may go through the educational program in a street car and learn car
control and good driving techniques before they apply for an Arizona Drivers License. Carl
Scott started that way and has moved up through Club racing and now into Professional
Racing. For more information, contact the ProAutoSports office at 480-664-3872 or see the
