First SCCA Race in F2000 is a Win

TEMPE, AZ - May 4, 2002 - Clutching his freshly granted SCCA Regional
Competition license, Carl Scott entered his Tiger Karts Van Diemen RF96 in
the SCCA Regional at Phoenix International Raceway this past weekend.
Having never driven the track., the 15 minute practice session did not teach
him everything he needed to know and his qualifying effort fell a few tenths
short of the pole position.  However, in the main, Carl out distanced a
field of  seven Formula 2000 to win his first SCCA event by almost half a
lap.

Carl found PIR to his liking and the car was equally comfortable, making for
a fun outing on a perfect afternoon.  Fellow drivers stopped by with advice
on the racing line and set up which proved to be very helpful.  The car had
apparently forgotten that its previous owner had backed it into the turn two
wall and was very happy sticking wherever it was placed on the fast banked
turns. Carl reported that the track was a lot of fun to drive with the long
banked 110 MPH turns particularly exhilarating

In the main, Carl patiently followed pole sitter and season champion Michael Williams of Tucson.
On lap five, he got a run underneath out of the turn nine hairpin.  Racing
side by side through oval turns three and four showed the control and
maturity of both drivers as Carl completed the pass for the lead.  The next
17 laps were precision and patience dealing with lap traffic to the
checkered.  Notable was the alertness of corner workers with the blue flag
and the equally impressive courtesy shown by lapped cars.  The SCCA clearly
demonstrated their ability to run a professional show.

After the Saturday SCCA race, the team loaded up and drove across town to
Firebird International Raceway and Carl won two of three races in Sunday's
ProAutoSports event.  It would have been a four for four weekend, but the
transmission broke with two laps to go in the final race of the weekend.
