Scott Racing switches to the Tiger Karts sponsored VanDiemen FF2000 for 2002 (8/18/2001)
Eight years of Karting and its time to try out something with a reverse gear, a radio, and a few other convenient features. Scottracing has acquired a 1996 VanDiemen Formula Ford 2000/ Formula continental to serve as training wheels in the big car arena. We plan to run the car in a series of NASA events for the remainder of 2001 and then transition to a combination of SCCA Club, SCCA Regional as well as selected NASA events for 2002.
The car is a veteran of several years of FC combat and has a great record in local events while holding its own on the regional and occasional national circuit.
FC/FF2000 is an international class with rules common between Europe and the US plus around the US. As such, it offers the opportunity to run almost anywhere and have a competitive ride. There are even several pro series supporting bigger series.
The FC96 is powered by a Ford 2 liter with overhead cam and dual venturi carb. The class rules call for almost everything to be OEM, thus the class is largely a handling and driving challenge. However, there is plenty of power as the Ford Pinto engine provides about 8 lb. per HP in the 1190 lb. car. That compares to the 80 Jr. shifter which is running about 10 lb. per HP. The net result is potential top speeds of about 140 mph coupled with excellent handling and brakes on both ends.
The chassis is a tube frame with fully adjustable suspension and the big new thrill- Wings.
Needless to say, we cant wait to get it on the track at the 29 Sept NASA event.
