Carl Dominates Tucson  on Perfect Track

Tucson was dry and Phoenix was wet so we got in the Friday night dirt race but washed out Saturday night's shifter race.  However, Friday night was worth all the waiting as Carl dominated the 2cycle Junior 2 in Tucson.   Starting mid-pack in both heats, he won each by almost a straightaway.    The main event was exciting, as Carl used some tricks from his sprint racing to get a major jump from his pole position.  Jeremy Payne was right behind, but could not keep up as Carl reeled off a dozen flawless laps within .05 seconds of each other (17.70).  Jeremy eventually tangled with a back marker and fell off the pace. When Carl got into the lapped traffic, he started picking off back markers as quickly as he came up on them, but not quickly enough as RC Whitwell, JR (#96) was eating into the lead.   At the checkered, Carl won by several kart lengths over the charging Whitwell, a second generation racer whose dad provided many years of great racing in the Arizona midgets. The track was perfect, the weather perfect and over 100 karts were entered, 15 in Junior 2. Two grooves were available in turns 3/4 and almost as many in turn 1/2, which made for very good racing on this excellent flat track.  Carl attributed his success to his Superdyne power which was subjected to intense post race tech.
