Busted in Vegas (10/1/2000).
The final IKF Region 7 Southwest Super Series race at the Las Vegas karting Center nicely fit our tune-up schedule for the Supernationals and offered an opportunity to continue to dial in equipment under big race conditions. The weather was hot and so was the competition. Unfortunately, our baseline CR-80 did not like the conditions and refused to provide the power Carl has been accustomed to. On the LVKC track, horsepower is critical and we were consistently one half second off the pace during practice, qualifying and the heat race. Having had enough of LVKC, the motor stuck on the last lap of the heat and we headed for home with our first DNS of the year. Not the result we would want, but the setup and driving knowledge were exactly what we went to gain and our best time was only a half second off the pole from last year's supernationals. Very encouraging considering how much more HP we will have next month.
