SKUSA Supernationals are Super (11/13/2000)

SKUSA's Las Vegas Supernationals has become a huge event and Scottracing thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of 44 of the nations best junior drivers competing mano a mano.

Having just raced at Las Vegas, it would seem that we would be totally dialed in.   Wrong.  The weather had changed dramatically and it was very cold.  How cold was it?  How do you say snow in Nevadan.  this of course changed all the handling and made for a significant challenge to try to guess what the track would do next.  On top of that, our engine woes continued from the previous week and it wasn't until extensive consultation with Pete that we finally got our new engine running well.

Race wise, Carl qualified 24th with a down on power motor.  Then in the first heat, the carb fell off on the warm up lap which relegated him to the B main.

Starting the B main sixth, things looked good except for the last minute gear change which slowed Carl and left him fighting for the transfer spot.  Thanks to some helpful competitors, he finished a comfortable sixth which was good to make the show.   Even a two position penalty from Tom Arge for allegedly bumping somebody meant he still made the main.

From the scratch position (dead last) he managed to move up 11 positions to finish 21st while closing on the next pack of Karts.

Much more fun than last year and we are looking forward to the next supernational.
